This wellness shot recipe is easy to do at home and will save you some bucks by making it yourself instead of buying from a store. This drink is especially vital in the colder months, but I like to do it throughout the year because it is full of good vitamins!
What makes this recipe extra fun is that you can easily adjust the flavour of ginger by adding balancing ingredients to match your taste preferences. Here’s how I like to do it.

Ingredients:
- 100 g of ginger root
- 1 litre of water (you can play around with the amount of water. 1 litre will give you a drink with a medium-strong ginger taste. If you want to consume it as a stronger shot, you can easily reduce the amount of water, have a taste test and add more water if you feel the need for it.)
- 3 lemons
Optional:
- 1 tablespoon of honey (if you are going for a strong ginger flavour without any sweeteners, you can skip it)
- 10 cherries or 5 strawberries (to add sweeter nuances to the flavour).
Method:
- Grate the ginger root and add it to the water.
- Add honey and cherries or strawberries, if you prefer. I divided the ginger-water mix into two pots and added cherries to one and strawberries to the other pot, so I could have two different flavoured drinks in the end.
- Juice 3 lemons and add them to the mix.
- Bring the water to a boil. Once it boils, turn off the heat and leave it to sit under a lid for at least 45 minutes. The longer it sits, the stronger the flavour.
- Use a sieve to drain the mixture and pour it into glass jars to cool down.
- Enjoy either as a shot, as a milder drink with ice or heat up and drink it hot!
